What is Therapeutic Massage?
Therapeutic Massage is a form of healing and relaxation that has
been around for centuries. Everyone can benefit from a professional
massage. Whether massage is on a table or a chair, Swedish, deep tissue or
sports, the benefits are always the same.
Among other things, massage is relaxing and therapeutic, calms the
nervous system, increases blood supply to tissues and helps prevent
injuries. Massage reduces tension, headaches, repetitive stress symptoms,
muscle soreness, anxiety, stress, and tissue inflammation. Massage also
improves productivity, concentration, blood circulation, health and
wellness, energy and alertness, posture, and helps with the removal of
metabolic waste
Therapeutic Massage combines techniques from various modalities,
including Swedish, deep tissue, and sports massage to provide the client
with the therapeutic work needed to relax and regenerate their muscles.

Your first appointment
Your
massage therapist will begin by asking some general health questions since there
are some conditions that massage is not appropriate. Your therapist, then, will
show you to the therapy room, where you will undress and relax onto the massage
table covering yourself with a fresh clean sheet.
Your
therapist will offer cushions to make you more comfortable on the table. The
room will be warm and quiet, often with soft relaxing music.
For
a full body massage, most people undress completely though you may choose to
wear underwear. You will be warmly draped at all times except for the area being
worked on.
How
will a massage feel?
Massage
on normal tissue is almost always pleasant. Always tell your therapist if you
feel discomfort so that adjustments can be made.
After
a massage, most people feel very relaxed. After an initial period of feeling
slowed down, people often experience an increase in energy that can last for
several days.
Sometimes
the immediate effect of your massage may seem mild. Watch for further change
over the following days; such as pain relief, reduced stress, or mobility
increased.
